The Club had a decent turn-out for the May One-design Regatta with Dragons, Farr 30s and Stars out for both days of the weekend and Martin 242s out for Saturday and 6 Meters out for Sunday. There was great Dragon sailing weather both days with the breeze in the 12 – 15 knot range on Saturday and 8 – 10 knots on Sunday. There were a few gear failures with Blue out for three races on Saturday with a jammed Harken furler which required disassembly to solve the problem. Rum and Monkey missed two races on Sunday with a jib halyard failure. Black Magic did not show on Sunday as Charles ended up becoming a grandfather yet again and spent the day baby-sitting. Everyone agreed not to sail the final race on Sunday as it had been a long weekend with some crew members out of shape (believe it or not). Eagle had planned to be in the water but helmsman Bruce Reid ended up solving some sort of IT problem in Bellingham while Ken cooled his heels. Carmudgeon is still at Straits Marine being converted to a 2018 Petticrows. Hopefully she will be back in June. With the addition of Jim Burns’ new Petticrows and Lane Rudd’s acquisition of Ayrborn, it looks like we should have at least nine Dragons on the starting line in most regattas.
